In her Cultural Geography (GEOG220) class in Fall 2013, Melissa Rock assigned a final project for students in which each student created a podcast around the theme of the American Dream, the definition of which becomes more complex when seen through the perspective of cultural geography. Professor Rock’s introductory podcast discusses the history of the concept of the “American Dream” as an aspiration that extends beyond the typical notion of material prosperity, including ideas of social justice and equal opportunity for all citizens. Her students then explore these themes in three clusters. Their work is collected on the "Our American Dreams Project" class blog site.
