Description
In 2021, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania released an updated climate action plan that outlined the goals of the state for reducing carbon emissions, addressing climate change, and improving the lives of millions of Pennsylvanians and the environment around them. Since July 2019 numerous local governments and universities throughout Pennsylvania have been collaborating with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to develop these climate action plans to become greener, cleaner, and qualify for environmental grants, in hopes of improving their community, through things such as green energy implementation, and becoming more resilient. This paper focuses on the Borough of Kulpmont in Northumberland County Pennsylvania, the continuous work done to implement climate action strategies and an eventual climate action plan, and provides a greenhouse gas inventory for the borough.
This research was conducted as an independent study with the Bucknell Center for Sustainability & the Environment in partnership with Kulpmont Borough, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with ICLEI and DEP providing technical assistance for conducting the greenhouse gas inventory.
