Description
Genetic fingerprinting, ramet growth rate determinations, and mathematical modeling (Minimum branching trees) were used to estimate clone ages of saw palmettos at Archbold Biological Station in Florida. Growth rates indicate that 500 year old saw palmetto ramets are common. Genetically identified clones (genets) are estimated to be thousands of years old, likely exceeding 5,000 years of age.
