Abstract
CommuniTee’s partnered with two organizations: the Lewisburg Community Garden (LCG) and the Donald Heiter Community Center (DHCC). The Lewisburg Community Garden became CommuniTee’s service partner, while the fundraising efforts went towards the Donald Heiter Community Center. The importance of working with these two community-based organizations was to address sustainability in the environment and food insecurity. The LCG is a safe space for the community to plot their own gardens with the opportunity to grow more food for themselves and the community. The DHCC provides child care for individuals who are working. With the DHCC and LCG communicating with each other, an educational opportunity arises for the children at the DHCC to learn about environmental sustainability, volunteering at the LCG, and the LCG providing garden-grown produce. At the LCG, CommuniTee’s completed three different service projects. Company members painted a sign that offers better visibility of the LCG’s volunteer and daily hours so more community members will volunteer at the LCG. Company members also repaired the garden’s fence by stabilizing 93 fence posts. This discourages the amount of wildlife that enters the garden and protects the hard work and dedication of the community members’ garden plots. The company members also helped the LCG start a pollinator garden which attracts more bees, birds, and other insects to the garden. CommuniTee’s designed t-shirts that had a scenic landscape design on the back; matching the overarching theme of the environment. CommuniTee’s was able to sell out after three weeks of operation, thus selling a total of 229 t-shirts at a price of $25. After covering all of our expenses, CommuniTee’s will donate $1,614.64 net profit to the DHCC for raised gardening beds where the revenue after operations was $5,568.15. CommuniTee’s had five fundraising events, and an advocacy campaign for the DHCC through Givebutter. One of the fundraising events was a pickleball tournament. Other fundraising events were dine and donates at four different locations: Chipotle, Sweet Frog, Panera, and Amami. These events and Givebutter were marketed on various social media platforms, posters, media boards throughout academic buildings, and chalk-writing outside of academic buildings. These events raised $1,213.04 in total. In total, CommuniTee’s will donate $2,827.68 to the DHCC. The DHCC is using this money to buy raised garden beds. They also plan to teach the children about the environment and talk more with the LCG on what educational opportunities and partnerships are available through these two organizations.
