Abstract

Doing Deeds for Dawgs in Need chose to perform our service project at Patriot K9 Rescue and financially support the William Cameron Engine Company. Both partnerships align with the company’s mission to make the duties of local first responders more effective, efficient, and easily executed. Expanding the company's reach beyond the immediate Lewisburg area to help support service dogs at the rescue in Elysburg, company members created a safer and more comfortable environment for the service dogs through three days of manual labor. The company organized two successful fundraisers to raise money for the William Cameron Engine Company to purchase the Kings Vision Laryngoscope -- a piece of equipment that replaces an old tubular system for unconscious victims. We held a golf tournament on Oct. 30 at the Bucknell Golf Club, involving local businesses as title or hole sponsors. The company raised $1,647.40 through sponsorships and participants. The company held our second fundraiser, a car demolition, on Nov. 4. After students participated in the car demolition, William Cameron Engine Company members performed a Jaws of Life demonstration. The event presented a unique opportunity for Bucknell students to learn about safety and the importance of the Kings Vision Laryngoscope in high-pressure, time-restricting, and life-threatening situations. The William Cameron Engine Company was present to interact with company members and participants at both fundraising events. To fund our company’s expenses, Doing Deeds for Dawgs in Need created a BU drippy smiley face hoodie. We sold all 150 sweatshirts in one week, generating $2,049 in sales. In total, Doing Deeds for Dawgs in Need contributed roughly $4,000 to the Kings Vision Laryngoscope fund.
