Abstract

Cuddles and Covers chose to dedicate its time towards providing service for Mostly Mutts, a no-kill dog shelter. Mostly Mutts is a non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue and provide a sanctuary for both abandoned, neglected, and stray dogs. Due to this priority, our company has taken the initiative to carry out a service project that helps to create a better home for the animals at Mostly Mutts and an organized environment to benefit the owner and her many volunteers. During the 250 hours our company spent at Mostly Mutts, we painted a school bus, organized a foodshed, walked dogs, and furnished a cat shed. Some of the impacts of our service include: providing a mode of emergency transportation for the dogs by refurbishing the schoolbus, helping Sheryl expand her shelter to more than just dogs by furnishing the cat shed, allowing the dogs to improve their behavioral skills by walking them and giving them exposure to strangers. While we shared our service partner with Company D, we were successful in each developing our own set of tasks to make individual impacts on Mostly Mutts. To fundraise for Mostly Mutts, we experienced a trial and error process. Our first attempt was to partner with Sweet Frog where 25% of proceeds would go towards our fundraising. Although we raised some $16.76 from this event, we knew we could do more to meet our fundraising expectations. Our next plan was to coordinate a basketball tournament, but it ran into complications during the process such as a lack of public interest and lack of preparation to complete the event within our operations time frame. Regardless of this, we managed to gain support from local sponsors including Retrah, Dwellings, Jordanna Adams, Brushstrokes, Black Dog Jewelers, Blaise Alexander of Lewisburg, and Blaise Alexander of Sunbury. We received a total of $370 from our donors to go to Mostly Mutts. For our business strategy, we chose to sell Bucknell-themed beach towels for our product as we are heading into the summertime. We were successful in selling out all 225 of our towels which came out to a total revenue of $5938. After eliminating taxes and expenses, we have raised $982.75 in sales to donate to Mostly Mutts.
