Abstract
Bucky’s Builders: Bison Making Spaces Brighter Since the beginning of the Spring 2023 semester, our MGMT 101 Company B knew that we wanted to make a lasting impact through our service, business, and fundraising operations. Our pain point was quality education in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. We worked with The Improved Milton Experience (TIME) and the Central PA MakerSpace Academy. TIME and MakerSpace offer free programs for adolescents and adults who are interested in the field of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). In partnership with TIME and the MakerSpace, Bucky’s Builders finished renovating the first floor and cleaning the outdoor yard of the Milton Municipal Museum. The first floor is going to be used as a multipurpose space where environmental students and groups can come together to display educational learnings for the Milton community. The creative educational space will be used as an art exhibition area and community event space that opens Earth Day Weekend 2023. To prepare for opening weekend, company members drove to the Milton Municipal Museum — the service site — to conduct construction work, landscaping, and cleaning. Inside of the building, Bucky’s Builders cleaned out the first floor rooms of damaged historic items about Milton and garbage. We put in metal beams on the wall for art piece installations and moved old bricks from the wall to be used by TIME in the future. In the outdoor space, our company layed down a brick pathway, cleaned out front garden areas, removed dead trees and plants from the river shoreline, and discarded leaves and dead branches from the park across the street. During the span of the semester, our company has been extremely grateful to form strong relationships with our service partners, especially George Veninos (the Executive Director of TIME and Owner of the MakerSpace) and Buzz Meachum (the Outdoor Coordinator of the MakerSpace). Bucky’s Builders is grateful for the collaborative experience we curated with George and his team. In order to fund the service project and raise money for TIME, Bucky’s Builders sold crewnecks and discount cards to local Lewisburg and Milton Businesses. With local businesses on the discount cards, used to fundraise for TIME and the MakerSpace, we wanted to highlight the gems that Lewisburg and Milton have to offer in the food and lifestyle industries. We are grateful for the generosity of our partners for making our business and fundraising operations a possibility.
